Bumblebee Transformer Cake

My nephew wanted a Transformer cake, and he loved Bumblebee, so I agreed to make him a cake. I had originally wanted to make the cake carved out to resemble Bumblebee as a robot, and another as a car. I decided that would be more work than I'd want to put into a free cake, so I decided to just make the character in both car form and robot form out of modeling candy wrapped in fondant and paint features with food coloring. Hmmmm... not exactly certain why I decided to do that, but making both forms of Bumblebee took up quite a bit of time and didn't leave me enough time to detail the cake, so the cake turned out to be a little plain for my taste... but Bumblebee turned out great!

Just the Bumblebees

To make the robot form of Bumblebee I made 2 identical cars, then cut the pieces away for the various parts of the robot, reconnecting them with extremities. However, the robot form looks way bigger than the car. Must be more than meets the eye!

To add shimmer like a real car, I used yellow and gold pearl dust dry-brushed over the car and robot.

I had to have a steady hand to paint the delicate features of the Autobot symbol on Bumblebee's chest. I then used silver pearl dust to paint the face, adding a little blue for minor details.

Mmmm... Delicious Bumblebee!

The ecstatic birthday boy about to chow down on 3 hours worth of work!
