The Very Hungry Caterpillar Cake

This cake was created for twin girls's 1st birthday. They love The Very Hungry Caterpillar book, so after many sessions of brainstorming with their mommy, we came up with no one part of the book to best use for the cake... so I decided to just recreate the book into a cake!

Technically it's the middle parts of the cake, but it was the side facing where the twins were going to be seated.

I brought my copy of The Very Hungry Caterpillar for reference, but decided to leave it up for guests to read.

The wings on the butterfly are translucent and made from melted sugar, and the butterfly itself suspended from a wire to "flutter by".

This is what the cake looked like from behind. Also, notice the little colorful caterpillar eggs on the inside cover of the book and the band around the bottom tier of the cake?

Holey Cheese!
